Few food topics carry more heat and less light than GMOs. The Simpson Centre asked for a scientifically accurate booklet that could reduce ignorance on the subject — for an audience that arrives skeptical.
We reached for the chapbook: a centuries-old format for making ideas travel. Hand-made photographed graphics, in-house illustration, handcrafted typography, and a whimsical touch disarm a defensive topic, so questions like 'Is it safe?' and 'What does safe mean?' can actually get answered.
The chapbook was well received precisely because it doesn't read like a lecture — engaging, accessible, and readily consumed. Contested science, designed to be picked up.
